Snowfall caused chaotic morning rush hour in Limburg

Morning rush hour was particularly chaotic in Limburg on Monday, with snow causing numerous traffic problems. A 2 centimeter layer of snow caused traffic jams on the highways and inland roads in the province south of Sittard, according to traffic services ANWB and VID, NU.nl reports.

Despite the efforts of gritters, snow remained on the roads due to the low temperatures. Shortly after 9:00 a.m., there was a traffic jam of 30 kilometers on the A2 from Eindhoven to Maastricht. The jam caused approximately 70 minutes of delay. On the A76 from Heerlen to Germany, there was a 12 kilometers long traffic jam.

The A15 between Nijmegen and Gorinchem was closed for several hours on Monday morning, due to a collision involving two trucks and two cars between Leerdam and Arkel. Two people were injured. Motorists in a stretch of 5 kilometers between the last exit and the closure were stuck on the highway for some time, until the police could lead them away.
