"Christmas angel" saves motorist in Final Destination-type accident

"A 20-year-old motorist from Wijchen apparently still had a Christmas angel on his shoulder on Wednesday morning", the police wrote about an accident on Amsterdam's Rokin which strongly resembles something out of the Final Destination movies. The young man crashed his car into a metal road separator. A metal pole shot through his windshield, missing him"by a hair", the police said in a statement.

The police noticed the young man around 4:00 a.m. when he ignored a red light traffic light on Waterlooplein. He ignored the officers' instructions to stop and sped away. Moments later the officers found his badly damaged car on Rokin, and the young driver stumbling out.

He sustained only minor injuries and was taken to hospital for an examination. The police suspect that he may have been under the influence of alcohol and confiscated his driver's license.
