Video: Police chase leads to yet another fatal crash in Amsterdam
A motorcyclist died in an accident on Zuiderzeeweg in Amsterdam during the early hours of Thursday morning. The police reported that a chase “may have” preceded the fatal accident. This is the second fatal accident during a police chase in Amsterdam in just over a month.
The accident happened at around 00:30 a.m., the Amsterdam police said on X. The motorcycle went off the road and the driver was critically injured. “Despite immediate resuscitation by the police, the person unfortunately died at the scene,” the police said.
“Because a short chase may have preceded the accident, both the traffic accident analysis department and the Rijksrecherche will investigate the cause of the accident,” the police said. The Rijksrecherche is the department that handles internal investigations at government services like the police.
Almost exactly a month ago, on September 9th, a car crashed into the wall of a railway viaduct on Wibaustraat in the Dutch capital during a police chase. One person in the car died, three others were injured, and a fifth escaped unharmed.
Last week, a police chase in Almere also ended in an accident leaving five people injured.
