Dutch father’s body found in Lake Como, Italy, after he jumped in to save son
The body of a Dutch man who jumped into Lake Como to save his son was recovered Sunday, the Italian news agency ANSA reported.
The 45-year-old man from Enschede, Netherlands, had rented a boat Saturday with his three children. The oldest, a 16-year-old boy, got into difficulty while swimming. The father jumped into the water after him. They were reportedly at a place where the lake depth unexpectedly drops from 25 meters to 100 meters.
The boat, carrying the man’s other two children, ages 6 and 8, then drifted away.
Someone on a stand-up paddle board rescued the 16-year-old, but the father was not around. Dive teams from the fire department and the coast guard then searched for him.
Emergency services brought the children to shore. The boy who was pulled from the water was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
