Money troubles plague sixteen municipalities
According to Binnelands Bestuur, 16 municipalities will be under preventative financial supervision of the provinces next year. That is 7 more than in 2014.
The increased supervision means that a municipality may not enter into any new financial obligations without the consent of the province.
Both Zeeland and Groningen will have three municipalities under supervision. The Zeeland municipalities are Vlissingen, Middelburg and Kapelle. In Groningen the municipalities involved are Bellingwedde, Vlagtwedde and Ten Boer.
In Noord-Holland Muiden and Langedijk have to show improvement in the coming year. In Overijssel Haaksbergen and Twenterand are under supervision. In Gelderland it is Apeldoorn and Beuningen.
Utrecht will supervise Amersfoort next year. In Friesland only Heerenveen is on the list. Gemert-Bakel is the only municipality in the province of Noord-Brabant that will be under supervision. In Zuid-Holland, Lansingerland is the only municipality on the list.
Limburg, Drenthe and Flevoland are the only provinces where all municipalities have their finances in order. This is the fifth year in a row that no municipality in Limburg needs extra supervision.
