July to start with cooler weather before above-average heat returns
July will begin with cooler and more unsettled weather after an exceptionally hot period that produced multiple heat records. Weeronline's forecast models, however, indicate warmer-than-average conditions are likely to return later in the month. Another heat wave is possible.
A westerly airflow will quickly replace the recent extreme heat with cooler air. It also will bring more changeable weather, including occasional showers and rain.
Dry weather is still expected to dominate. The month is not forecast to be a washout. Some rain bands could bring strong winds, and brief stormy conditions cannot be ruled out.
Daytime highs early in the month are expected to reach about 20 degrees Celsius along the coast and 22 to 25 degrees inland.
The cooler spell is expected to be short-lived. Forecast models show the chance of warm summer weather increasing during the second week of July.
During the second half of July, models currently point to above-average temperatures and drier-than-usual conditions. Late July is climatologically one of the warmest periods of the year in the Netherlands. Summer and tropical conditions could return. Another heat wave is also possible.
