Temps could hit 33°C in parts of the Netherlands by Friday; Storm risk rising

On Monday evening, the Netherlands is mostly dry with thin high clouds and periods of sunshine after a day of gradually improving conditions. A warming trend will continue toward 30 to 33 degrees Celsius on Friday, when temperatures will peak and the risk of thunderstorms will increase, Weeronline reports.

On Monday evening, sunshine will still be present in many areas until sunset, which will be around 10 p.m. At that time, temperatures will vary from about 13 degrees in the north to around 17 degrees in the south of the country. Later in the evening and overnight, cloud cover will increase from the west, and the chance of a shower will gradually rise. Overnight lows will range from 7 degrees in the northeast to 13 degrees in the southwest.

Tuesday will become warmer than Monday and the past weekend. The morning is expected to start mostly cloudy, with a chance of a shower, especially in the east. By 10 a.m., temperatures will range from 14 degrees in the north to 19 degrees in the south.

In the afternoon, skies will be likely partly cloudy with frequent sunshine. Temperatures will rise to 20 degrees in the north and up to 25 degrees in the southeast. Winds are expected to remain weak to moderate, with a west wind in the south and a shift from east to north in the northern half of the country.

Tuesday evening will stay relatively mild with sunny intervals, Weeronline predicts. Around 9 p.m., temperatures will be about 15 degrees along the coast and still above 20 degrees in Noord-Brabant and Limburg. Overnight into Wednesday, cloud cover will increase again, especially in the north, where rain will become possible later in the night.

Wednesday will reportedly show a clear north-south contrast. The northern half will have cloud fields and occasional showers, while the southern half will see more sun and stronger solar intensity.

Between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Wednesday, UV index 7 will be expected, meaning unprotected skin can burn in 10 to 20 minutes. High temperatures will reach 19 degrees in the Wadden Islands, about 23 degrees in Amsterdam, and 26 degrees in Limburg. Winds will be generally moderate from the southwest.

Thursday will be a sunny, dry summer day. A weak to moderate southwest wind is expected to keep temperatures just under 25 degrees along the coast and Wadden Islands, while inland areas will warm to 25 to 31 degrees, with the highest temperatures in eastern Noord-Brabant and Limburg.

Friday will turn hot and humid, with temperatures reaching 30 to 33 degrees in many regions. During the course of the day, the risk of heavy rain and thunderstorms will also increase. Saturday, therefore, will remain warm and summery but unstable, with continued chances of showers and thunderstorms in the humid air mass.
