Cooler air, mix of sun and showers forecast for Netherlands this upcoming week
A northwest wind will bring cooler air and changeable weather to the Netherlands this week as the traditional dog days begin, Weeronline notes. The dog days run from July 20 to Aug. 20 and are historically considered the warmest period of the year. The name comes from Sirius, known as the Dog Star, during the time it rises with the sun.
High humidity often makes this stretch feel muggy. That will not happen in the coming days as cooler air moves in from the northwest.
Highs on Monday will reach about 20 degrees in the west and 22 degrees in the east. The day will stay mostly dry with a mix of sun and clouds, although a local shower is possible in the east.
Tuesday will remain dry with similar periods of sun and clouds. Temperatures will climb slightly to between 21 and 24 degrees under a moderate north wind.
Showers will spread across much of the country on Wednesday. The northwest flow will bring the heaviest rain to the northeast, though many other areas are likely to see precipitation.
Winds will strengthen to moderate or fresh and could blow strongly along the coast and around the IJsselmeer. Highs will reach only 18 or 19 degrees in the north and 21 degrees in the southeast.
Sunshine will return more widely from Thursday afternoon after a few morning showers. Highs that day are forecast between 19 and 22 degrees.
Temperatures will rise again Friday, with highs of 20 to locally 25 degrees. Saturday is expected to bring more widespread summer warmth.
The chance of showers will gradually increase starting Sunday. Still, the weather will remain pleasantly summery, with most areas seeing highs between 21 and 25 degrees.
