19-year-old Amsterdam man drowns in Volendam pool
A 19-year-old man from Amsterdam died Friday evening after drowning in swimming pool De Waterdam in Volendam, police said.
Around 8:30 p.m., authorities received a report of a person in need of CPR at the facility. Multiple emergency services responded, including a trauma helicopter. Despite resuscitation efforts, the man died at the scene.
Police said that many people witnessed the incident. Victim support was available for those affected. Swimming pool De Waterdam said the facility will remain closed throughout the weekend. The police are investigating.
A 24-year-old man also died after drowning in the Waal near Tiel on Friday evening. His body was later recovered following a search operation involving a drone and a helicopter.
Earlier, on Thursday, in Utrecht, a 13-year-old boy drowned in the Stijkvierteplas after disappearing while swimming and was recovered by rescue workers at about 7:20 p.m. In Limburg, 28-year-old amateur footballer Mats Grotenbreg died at the Mookerplas in Middelaar after being struck by a boat while swimming, and police arrested a suspect in connection with the incident.
