35-year-old man drowns in Vught; Another dies in Haren paddleboarding accident
A 35-year-old man from Tilburg drowned on Saturday at recreational lake de IJzeren Man in Vught, police said. Another man died in Groningen during paddleboarding.
The 35-year-old was unconscious when he was taken out of the water. Emergency responders performed CPR at the scene. The man was then taken for further treatment but died on Sunday despite resuscitation efforts. Authorities confirmed the victim was from Tilburg.
In Haren, Groningen, another man died Sunday afternoon while paddleboarding on the Paterswoldsemeer, police said. He had fallen off his board and was unable to resurface for reasons that remain unclear.
Police said officers pulled the man from the water and immediately began resuscitation efforts. Those efforts were unsuccessful. The victim died at the scene.
Other drowning incidents include a 19-year-old man who drowned at the swimming pool De Waterdam in Volendam on Friday evening. A 24-year-old man also drowned on Friday in Waal near Tiel.
On Thursday, in Utrecht, a 13-year-old boy also drowned in the Stijkvierteplas. In Limburg, also on Thursday, 28-year-old amateur footballer Mats Grotenbreg died at the Mookerplas in Middelaar after being struck by a boat while swimming. Police arrested a suspect in that case.
