Utrecht classroom evacuated over false report of armed student; Minor girl arrested
The police in Utrecht arrested a girl on Monday morning for making a false report of a student having a firearm at a secondary school. The police evacuated the classroom and searched the school, but found no firearm, NU.nl reports.
The incident occurred at a school on Eykmanlaan in Utrecht at around 10:00 a.m. The police responded to the school in large numbers, also deploying the Special Intervention Service (DSI).
The police entered the classroom where the alleged armed student was. They evacuated all the children except for the girl against whom the report had been made.
Officers searched the girl and found that she was unarmed. They also searched the classroom, lockers, and restrooms, and found nothing out of the ordinary.
The police assume it was a false report and have arrested the child who made the call for further investigation.
The police spoke of an “unnecessary deployment of emergency services.” The incident had a major impact on the students present, especially the girl who was falsely accused.
A community police officer went to the school to provide support and answer questions.
