Blood moon lit up Dutch skies last night; Sunshine and temps up to 17°C today

Netherlands residents were treated to a blood moon last night. The moon appeared reddish-orange due to a lunar eclipse, in which the Earth is directly between the sun and the moon. Today, the Netherlands is in for more spring-like weather, with clear skies, sunshine, and temperatures up to 17 degrees Celsius.

Last night was also a full moon, making the blood moon even more spectacular. The total lunar eclipse occurred during daytime in the Netherlands, so it wasn’t visible. But its effect, the moon’s red-orange hue, was.

Wednesday will be sunny and dry in the Netherlands, with maximums ranging between 8 degrees Celsius on the Wadden Islands and up to 17 degrees Celsius in the south. There will be a light to moderate wind from the east, according to the KNMI.

Thursday will be another sunny and dry day, with a moderate southeasterly wind, “The maximum temperature will be around 17 degrees Celsius, a few degrees lower on the Wadden Islands,” the KNMI said. “This makes it exceptionally mild for this time of year.” Typical maximums for early March are around 8.5 degrees Celsius.

The sunshine and mild weather will continue up to and including Monday, the meteorological institute expects. “There is a chance of fog during the nights and mornings. It will remain dry through the weekend, with an increased chance of showers on Monday,” the KNMI said.

From Tuesday onward, there will be more showers, but the weather will remain mild.
