Icy roads claim life in Ugchelen crash near Apeldoorn
A snow-covered road claimed one life Saturday morning during a frontal collision that occurred on provincial road N304 between Apeldoorn and Ede, according to Omroep Gelderland.
The crash happened at around 9 a.m. on the icy road. Emergency services arrived promptly, but a person was pronounced dead at the scene. Details about the victim have not been released.
Authorities cited heavy snowfall and slippery conditions as contributing factors. The road has been partially closed as investigators examine the crash site.
The incident is part of a broader pattern of traffic disruptions across the eastern Netherlands due to snow and ice. Several other non-fatal accidents occurred earlier in the morning in nearby towns, including Almelo, Nijverdal, and Zevenaar.
The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) issued yellow and orange warnings for snow and slippery roads earlier Saturday, later downgrading the alert to yellow.
