Three injured after car crashes into home, ignites; Driver suspected of drunken driving

Three people were injured early Saturday morning when a car crashed into a home in Zuidveen, police confirmed. The vehicle caught fire after colliding with the house on Burgemeester G. W. Stroinkweg, RTV Oost reported. No one inside the residence was hurt.

The crash occurred shortly before 1:30 a.m. Authorities identified the driver as a 24-year-old man from the municipality of Westerveld, Drenthe. A police spokesperson said the driver “likely had too much to drink” and was also driving with a revoked license. Blood was drawn at the hospital to determine his exact level of intoxication.

Two passengers were also injured: an 18-year-old man from Meppel and a 22-year-old man from Westerveld. All three were transported to a hospital. Their current conditions have not been disclosed.

The collision caused the car to ignite. Images from the scene show that firefighters had to brace the house to prevent further structural damage. Police have not yet provided an estimate of the total damage to the property.
