Three killed in separate crashes in Drenthe and Utrecht

Three people were killed Friday afternoon in separate traffic accidents in Drenthe and Utrecht, police said. Two of the fatal crashes occurred in Drenthe.

The first happened around 4:30 p.m. on the N34 near Emmen, where two cars collided. One of the drivers was killed. The other driver and two passengers from one of the vehicles were injured and taken to a hospital. The N34 is known as a road where serious accidents occur frequently.

About 30 minutes later a multi-vehicle crash occurred on the A28 near Spier, on the stretch from Hoogeveen toward Assen. One of the drivers died in that accident. Three other people were injured and transported to a hospital.

Police are investigating both crashes in Drenthe and have asked witnesses to share dashcam footage. The N34 has since reopened. The A28 remained closed in the northbound direction until about 11 p.m.

A third fatal accident occurred near Odijk in the province of Utrecht. On the N421, two cars collided head-on. One motorist was killed, and another person was injured and taken to a hospital.
