Rotterdam Summer Carnival parade starts at noon Saturday for 5-kilometer route

The Summer Carnival street parade begins at noon Saturday on the Blaak. It follows a five-kilometer route through the center of Rotterdam, Rijnmond reports.

The event draws on carnival traditions from the Antilles, Cape Verde, Suriname, and Spain and attracts tens of thousands of people each year.

The crowned Summer Carnival King and Queen are to lead the procession, with dozens of floats following them. The parade includes a colorful collection of dancers, drum bands, and floats that carry the atmosphere through the city.

Rijnmond broadcasts the parade live on television starting at 1 p.m. The broadcast is produced in collaboration with OPEN Rotterdam and NOS. It is also available on the Rijnmond website and app.
