Explosion rips through Zwolle home; Police hunt fatbike-riding suspects
A powerful explosion severely damaged the front door of a home on Roelingsbeek in Zwolle early Sunday morning, prompting a large police search for two suspects seen fleeing on fatbikes, RTV Oost reports.
The blast occurred around 3:40 a.m., blowing a hole in the front door and filling the house with smoke. Inside were a mother, father, and two children. None of them were injured, though the woman was examined by paramedics at the scene. Police said the family was deeply shaken.
Witnesses reported seeing two young males near the house shortly before the explosion. One of them was wearing a balaclava and reportedly appeared to place an explosive device at the door, according to police. Moments later, both suspects fled the scene on fatbikes in an unknown direction.
Multiple police units responded to the residential street, securing the area and launching a search with a tracking dog. Despite extensive efforts, the suspects remain at large.
Investigators cordoned off the area around the home for forensic analysis. Officers urged residents to share any relevant information or footage. “Anyone who saw suspicious behavior or has security camera images of the suspects is asked to contact police,” a spokesperson said.
