Kickboxer Badr Hari sentenced to community service for assaulting ex-wife

The kickboxer Badr Hari has been sentenced to 24 hours of community service for assault, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) confirmed Thursday, following reports from Het Parool. The fighter was convicted of assaulting his ex-wife, Daphne Romani, in September last year and again on February 2. After the most recent incident, Hari was arrested and held in custody for three days.

Along with the community service, Hari has been issued a restraining order, a one-year ban from certain locations, and is required to pay damages. Following his release from custody, Hari publicly addressed his actions, stating that he felt "deep regret" for his behavior.

The OM issued Hari a plea deal, meaning the case was resolved without a judge’s involvement. He had two weeks to contest it, but did not, making the sentence final, the prosecution confirmed.

Hari also has a prior conviction. In October 2015, he was sentenced on appeal to two years in prison, including ten months suspended, for assaulting businessman Koen Everink, who was later murdered. The incident occurred in a skybox at the Amsterdam ArenA during the 2012 Sensation White dance event.

Hari has five children with Romani. The couple got married in 2016, before getting divorced in 2024. It was reported that Hari had been having an affair with his children’s babysitter, Eefje Plet. The two began dating after he had broken up with Romani.

The kickboxer has not fought since 2023, although he has not officially confirmed his retirement.
