Three injured in Amsterdam after stolen scooter hits fatbike during Morocco celebration

A stolen motorscooter rider rear-ended a fatbike carrying two minor boys in Amsterdam Slotermeer during a Morocco World Cup celebration. The crash occurred around midnight at Plein ’40-’45 and left three people injured and hospitalized, Het Parool reported.

The crash happened on the bus lane along Slotermeerlaan, roughly three hours after the Morocco-Canada match ended. The celebration in the area was still ongoing when the collision happened.

According to witnesses, the motorscooter struck the back of the fatbike, which had two riders. Police initially thought pedestrians were involved, but surveillance footage later confirmed it was a collision with a fatbike.

All three involved were taken to the hospital with what appeared at first to be serious injuries. Police later said the two fatbike riders, both underage boys, suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.

The 18-year-old motorscooter rider was discharged from the hospital on Sunday morning after his injuries were assessed as less serious than initially feared. He was immediately arrested upon release.

Police said the motorscooter had been reported stolen and that the rider did not have a driver’s license.

The two fatbike riders remained in hospital care following the crash.
