Windows smashed on at least 30 cars overnight in Vlaardingen, police investigating
At least 30 vehicles were vandalized overnight in Vlaardingen, where widespread reports of smashed windows flooded in from multiple neighborhoods between late Saturday and early Sunday, Provinciale Zeeuwse Courant (PZC) reported. The affected cars were found across the city, including in Westwijk, the Indische Buurt, and the Engelsche Boomgaert, with damage ranging from cracked windows to completely shattered glass.
By midday, authorities had confirmed about 30 vehicles had been damaged, though some had already been towed or removed from the streets. The vandalized vehicles included everything from delivery vans to compact cars. In several cases, multiple windows on the same car were destroyed. A salvage company was called in to remove some of the vehicles.
“I just stepped outside to walk my dog and saw the mess,” local resident called Frans told PZC. “One broken window could be a mistake. But doing it more than 20 times? Something is clearly wrong with the person who did this.”
The incidents occurred along a broad stretch from Van Baerlestraat to Burgemeester Pruissingel. One resident, Marita, who lives on Claudius Civiluslaan, found her car targeted. “We saw a message in the building group chat and went to check. One of our windows was completely smashed,” she told PZC. A pair of sunglasses was also stolen from her glove compartment. “But that’s not even the worst part. The hassle is much worse. We were just about to leave on a trip.”
Marita and her partner have filed a police report and arranged for window repairs. “We were lucky to be helped quickly—only one person ahead of us,” she told the newspaper. “That will probably change as the day goes on.”
