Explosions damage two Amsterdam businesses

Two explosives were detonated in Amsterdam during the early hours of Wednesday morning. One damaged two businesses in Amsterdam West. And multiple cars were found damaged after an explosion near Sloterdijk, AT5 reports.

At around 4:30 a.m. an explosive was used in an attempted burglary on Jan Evertsenstraat in Amsterdam West. The buildings of a restaurant and a jeweler sustained damage. The police are investigating and looking for witnesses.

Last year there were two incidents involving explosives being left at businesses on Jan Evertsenstraat, one in August and one in February.

The second explosive went off on a business park on Poortland, near Sloterdijk. The police found the explosive after receiving several reports of damaged cars. Whether the damage was caused by the explosion, is not yet clear. Officers found multiple with cut tires. A number of car windows were also damaged.

What kind of explosives were involved is not yet known. The police are investigating. At this stage the police do not believe the two explosives were related.
