Two cops seriously hurt in accident on Dutch highway
Two police officers were seriously injured in an accident on the A2 highway between Waardenburg and Zaltbommel on Monday night. The accident happened while the police were helping a motorist with car troubles, De Gelderlander reports.
The police responded to a report of people pushing a car on the highway around 10:00 p.m. Two lanes were closed and the police parked their car across the lanes to block them. The broken car was loaded onto a tow truck and taken away.
As the two officers were getting back into their car, a passenger car crashed into the police car at full speed. Firefighters had to free the two cops, a man and a woman, from their car. They were rushed to hospital in serious condition.
The driver of the other car was arrested. She was given a breathalyzer test, which showed that she was under the influence of alcohol.
The people in the broken car were unharmed. They left with the tow truck just before the accident happened.
