Suspects arrested in 2015 Almere assassination

Three men from Amsterdam were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the assassination of Ali Motamed in Almere in December 2015, the police announced in a statement.

Motamed, 56, was gunned down on Hendrik Marsmanstraat around 7:00 a.m. on December 15th, 2015. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition, where he later passed away. In October 2016, the police revealed that the suspects in this murder may live in Amsterdam based on phone traffic analysis.

Investigation eventually led the police to these three suspects, aged 28, 35 and 36 years old. They were arrested last week. The 28-year-old and 35-year-old were arraigned and remanded into custody for two weeks. They are in restricted custody, which means they are only allowed contact with their lawyers. The 36-year-old suspect was released again after questioning.

The police believe that more arrests may follow. The detective team is still investigating the motive for this murder.
