
Intern killed in Amsterdam shooting to be laid to rest in Morocco
Seventeen year old Mohammed Bouchikhi, who was killed in a shooting at an Amsterdam community center on Friday, will be laid to rest in Morocco. His family are expected to travel with his body to Morocco at the end of this week, Abdou Menebhi, who is in close contact with the family, said to RTL Nieuws.
According to Menebhi, the family is very sad, angry and feels powerless. The funeral in Morocco is a family tradition, he added.
Mohammed Bouchikhi was killed in a shooting at the community center on Grote Wittenburgerstraat on Friday night. He worked at the community center as an intern. He had no criminal record or previous contact with the authorities, and it is suspected that he was not the intended target of this shooting. The police are investigating.
The Amsterdam mayor, police and Public Prosecutor decided to implement a number of extra security measures in the neighborhood, Oostelijke Eilanden, following the shooting.
A silent march will be held to commemorate the teenager on Sunday, February 25th at 1:00 p.m. Participants will march through the neighborhood to the youth center where Bouchikhi was shot.
