Three arrested for vicious attack on gay couple in Amsterdam

The police arrested three men suspected of violently assaulting two gay men in Amsterdam in June. The three are suspected of attempted murder or attempted manslaughter. The police expect to arrest a fourth suspect in the near future, ANP reports.

The attack happened on June 18th. The two men were walking on Reguliersdwarsstraat after a night out when a man started scolding and threatening them. According to the police, most of this tirade had to do with the men's sexuality. The victims kept walking and heard the man calling someone.

A short time later, on the Damrak, the man and three others walked up to them. The couple were beaten and kicked. The older victim, a 37-year-old man, lost consciousness for a time and had several of his teeth knocked out. The other victim, a 23-year-old man, sustained severe injuries to his face and mouth. One of the victims needed oral surgery.

According to the police, both men are still struggling with emotional damage after the attack.

The arrested suspects are two men from Amsterdam, aged 23 and 27, and a 25-year-old man from The Hague. They are in custody and will be arraigned on Friday.
