Police seek two for beating up gay man as he exited an Amsterdam tram
The police are looking for two men in connection with a gay bashing incident in Amsterdam on Tuesday night. The two men verbally and physically assaulted a 24-year-old man because of his sexual orientation, the police said.
The 24-year-old man got off the tram at the stop on Kinkerstraat in Amsterdam at around 11:50 p.m. on Tuesday. The two men immediately shouted “homo” at him. When he confronted them about it, they attacked him and beat him up, right next to the tram.
The victim sustained injuries to his face and upper body, but did not require hospital treatment. A bystander shot to his aid, and the two perpetrators fled in the direction of Postjesweg.
The police are looking for witnesses to this gay bashing incident. Investigators also asked anyone with relevant video footage to submit it to the police.
“Being assaulted, discriminated against, insulted, and threatened because of your origin, orientation, religion, gender, or any other grounds is something that is unacceptable and something that is not allowed in the Netherlands at any time,” the police said.
