Fmr No Surrender member sentenced to 18 years for murder

A former member of motorcycle gang No Surrender was sentenced to 18 years in prison for murdering fellow gang member Hugo van Houten two years ago. The court considered it proven that Sooi de C. shot and killed 27-year-old Van Houten at a campsite in Molenschot, Noord-Brabant, NOS reports.

The murder happened on August 17th, 2015. Van Houten was shot seven times. The police looked for De C. for over a year before he was eventually arrested in Romania last October.

The court believes that the murder was a settlement in the criminal circuit, though the motive was not confirmed during the trial. The Public Prosecutor demanded 25 years in prison against De C. Due to the severity of the crime, the court considered a long prison sentence appropriate, but found 25 years too long in comparison to punishments in similar cases. De C. was therefore sentenced to 18 years in prison.

According to the court, it is unclear whether No Surrender had anything to do with the murder. Bot De C. and Van Houten left the club in 2015.

De C. denied committing the murder, but gave no further statements.
