A 31-year-old taxi driver from Amsterdam was sentenced to 3 years in prison, one of which conditionally suspended, for dealing in drugs and firearms on the dark web. The sentence issued by the court of Rotterdam was one year shorter than what the Public Prosecutor demanded, Het Parool reports.

The court considered it proven that the man sold at least nine firearms, hundreds of ecstasy pills, over an ounce of cannabis and nearly 20 grams of cocaine on the dark web.

Armin A., a 25-year-old man convicted of forcing an underage girl to work as a prostitute in Valkenburg in 2015, has again been sentenced to prison. The court in Maastricht sentenced him to 2.5 years in prison with institutionalized psychiatric treatment for abducting and assaulting his ex-girlfriend. He was also found guilty of drug trafficking and burglary, RTL Nieuws reports.

On Monday the police turned the Karelskamp prison in Almelo inside out in search of a firearm, after one of the inmates received a threat saying that he would be murdered in prison. The target was Deja A., one of three suspects in a quadruple murder in Enschede last year, De Gelderlander reports.

A 44-year-old port worker from Rozenburg was sentenced to six years in prison for involvement in large-scale cocaine smuggling. The court considered it proven that the man, who worked at a transhipment company at the port of Rotterdam, was involved in three shipments involving a total of 1,150 kilograms of cocaine, NOS reports.

Children who commit their first minor offense like shoplifting, will soon only face a strong reprimand. Last year the police experimented in Twente with an approach in which minors were not put in jail after a first offense, but instead had a firm conversation with a police officer in the presence of their parents. This approach will now be implemented nationwide, AD reports.

On Monday the court in Amsterdam sentenced Sjonny W. to 14 years and five months in prison, with institutionalized psychiatric treatment, for the murder of Mirela Mos in 2004. The man was acquitted of killing Sabrina Oosterbeek and Moinque Roossien. According to the court, there is not enough evidence to prove that W. was also involved in these two women's murders, NU.nl reports.

On Thursday the court in Amsterdam sentenced six people to up to four years in prison for their involvement in the abduction of then 2-year-old Insiya Hemani from her grandmother's Amsterdam apartment in 2016. Four Amsterdam men were sentenced to jail by a British court for causing an affray and assaulting a police officer before a Champions League match between Ajax and Tottenham Hotspur in London on April 30th. The four Ajax fans are also banned from attending football matches in the United Kingdom for six years, the local police said in a statement.

Dutch brothers Armin and Arash N. regret assaulting a waiter in Prague last year, they both said during the first day of the trail against them in the Czech capital on Monday. They are facing charges of attempted murder or manslaughter. If they are convicted, they face up to 18 years in prison, Het Parool reports.

Natural healer Sara G. from Kockengen in Urecht was sentenced to eight years in prison for manslaughter on Wednesday. The 59-year-old woman treated a Swedish woman with the controversial rehabilitation drug ibogaine, after which the Swedish woman died. The Public Prosecutor demanded 10 years in prison against G., NOS reports.

The Swedish woman came to the Netherlands to seek help for her drug addiction. She stayed in G.'s bed and breakfast, where she died in February 2017. According to the Prosecutor, G. did not properly inform the woman about the risks of using the drug.

A 71-year-old man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for killing his wife and getting rid of her body. The then 36-year-old woman disappeared from Siddeburen in 2010. While her body was never found, the court considered it proven that she was killed and that only her husband could have done it, NOS reports.

On Tuesday the court in The Hague sentenced a 44-year-old man to 20 years in prison for brutally robbing and murdering 85-year-old Ans van der Meer from The Hague in 2017. His 35-year-old partner was sentenced to nine months in prison for laundering the loot, NU.nl reports.

Friends found the elderly woman dead in her flat in Loosduinen in June 2017. She had been severely beaten. Her sternum was broken, as was her thoracic vertebra, nine ribs and nose. The woman died from suffocation.

This method is not in conflict with the principle that a suspect does not have to cooperate with their own conviction, the Noord-Holland court ruled on Thursday in a case against three men suspected of phishing activities. Videos surfaced showing detainees having a party in a Dutch prison. The two videos were recorded on a smartphone in the Zuyderbos penitentiary in Heerhugowaard in October last year, the Telegraaf reports. 

The videos show prisoners filming each other while they dance and rap. They can also be seen throwing kitchen furniture. What can't be seen on the videos, is any intervention by prison guards.

The court of appeal in Den Bosch sentenced John F. to 12 years in prison for killing his ex-girlfriend Linda van der Giesen. In 2015 F. shot and killed Van der Giesen in the parking lot of a hospital in Waalwijk, where she worked as a nurse. He also threatened and stalked her for some time before her murder.

The court sentenced 40-year-old Shurandy S. to 20 years in prison for murdering Reduan B., brother of key witness Nabil B. The judge considered it conclusively proven that S. gunned down the innocent man at his business in Amsterdam on March 29th last year, RTL Nieuws reports.

The court in Alkmaar sentenced 47-year-old Husseyin A. to 20 years in prison for killing 19-year-old Milica van Doorn in Zaandam in 1992. The sentence matched what the Public Prosecutor demanded, NOS reports.

Milica was found dead in a pond in her home town of Zaandam in June 1992. She had been raped and murdered. Traces of DNA were found on her body, but these did not lead to a suspect at the time.

Two young men were sentenced to 20 and 25 years in prison for assassinating two men in Rotterdam-Beverwaard in December last year. The two perpetrators were both 18 years old at the time of the murders, NU.nl reports.
