An international train from Brussels to Amsterdam was evacuated at Breda station at around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. A passenger overheard a conversation in French in which the word "explosive" was mentioned and called the police. After around 90 minutes of investigation, the police concluded that it was a false alarm, AD reports.
Two people died during the Netherlands' New Year's celebrations last night. A man was killed in an explosion in Enschede. And in the Friesland town of Morra, a person was killed in a fireworks incident, according to the police.
The police responded to Gerstraat in Enschede shortly after midnight. At the scene they found a deceased man. "He likely died as a result of a fireworks explosion", the Enschede police said on Twitter. The police are investigating and call on witnesses to come forward.
Drivers in the Netherlands were neither imagining things nor embellishing in 2018 when they complained about travel times. Dutch highways were far more clogged in 2018 than a year earlier, with traffic jams up nearly 20 percent.

The incident happened on Adriaan van Bergenstraat at around 4:00 a.m. on Sunday. Responding officers found the young man bleeding heavily on the street. He was rushed to hospital, where he died a short time later.
Former TV presenter Frank Masmeijer, suspected of trafficking cocaine through the port of Antwerp, was arrested in a hotel in Breda on Tuesday. The Netherlands issued its first ever gender-neutral passport. On Friday 57-year-old Leonne Zeegers from Breda, who as an intersex person does not identify as a man or a woman, received a passport with an 'X', instead of an 'M' for male or 'V' for female, NU.nl reports.
Zeegers won the right to a gender neutral passport in a lawsuit. In May the court ruled that the fact Zeegers can not register as gender neutral is "a violation of private life, self-determination and personal autonomy".
A 22-year-old man from Oosterhout was arrested in a Breda home on Saturday after at least 27 people fell ill in a bar on Vismarktstraat during the early hours of that morning, the police said in a statement. The police believe the suspect released pepper spray or something similar in the bar.

A 42-year-old woman from Hoogvliet was stabbed to death on Klaverweide in Breda on Wednesday evening. A 42-year-old man from Breda was arrested immediately after the incident, AD reports.
The stabbing happened around 6:30 p.m. The suspect calmly stayed in the spot until the police arrived. A local resident went to see what was going on when he heard screaming. According to the resident, the man stabbed the woman around 20 times.
The police evacuated Breda Central Station due to a bomb threat on Tuesday evening. The station was evacuated around 7:00 p.m. Shortly after 9:00 p.m. the police announced that no explosives were found and the station was released.

A car lost its back wheels after driving over a bump in Breda on Thursday morning. This happened in the curve towards Fellenoordstraat, Omroep Brabant reports.

A 35-year-old man from Sint Willebrord was arrested for the second time last month for involvement in the assassination of Peter van der Linde in Breda last year. Suspect David J. was arrested in an undercover operation, sources confirmed to ANP.
While abroad, J. told undercover police officers things about the murder that resulted in his arrest, according to the news wire. What he said, is not clear. The Public Prosecutor refused to comment.
Last week J.'s pre-trail detention was extended until his first public hearing in June.
