Utrecht, Eindhoven and Breda turn away King's Day crowds as squares reach capacity

Utrecht, Eindhoven, and Breda are turning away King's Day crowds on Monday after central squares in all three cities reached capacity.

In Utrecht, authorities are turning away new arrivals from the Stadhuisplein and Oudkerkhof after those squares filled up. The Neude and Janskerkhof are also becoming very crowded.

Crowds are building, especially at the Asch van Wijckskade in the center, the municipality reports. Space remains available at the Domplein and Vredenburg.

In Eindhoven, the Stadhuisplein and Begijnhof in the city center have no room for additional people. But some space reportedly remains available near the Paterskerk and in the Strijp-S neighborhood. A city spokesperson said the area is busy but “going well.” The spokesperson added that the atmosphere is “pleasantly busy” and calm.

In Breda, the inner city is very busy, and the designated party squares are full. At the Havermarkt, officials are enforcing a one-in, one-out policy. Space remains available at the Haven, Sint Janstraat, Kasteelplein, and Kerkplein. The large 538 Koningsdag music festival is underway at the Chasséveld near the Havermarkt.

In Amsterdam, the inner city is busy but has not yet reached the point of turning people away, AT5 reported. Last year, Amsterdam issued a warning for people not to come to certain areas.
