An explosion in a transformer house on Grote Markt in the center of Bergen op Zoom left four people hurt on Monday. Around 130 shops and houses were also without electricity for hours, RTL Nieuws reports.

 The explosion was the result of a short circuit, according to the broadcaster. It caused a fire in a restaurant located next to the transformer house. Firefighters quickly got the fire under control.

A 25-year-old woman was found killed in an apartment on Goudbaard in Bergen op Zoom during the early hours of Saturday morning. Her 4-year-old son was found crying next to her. A 24-year-old man turned himself in at a police station in the Noord-Brabant city on Sunday, BN De Stem and RTL Nieuws report.

The police in Bergen op Zoom arrested a man on Thursday evening for waving a firearm around in the vicinity of children. The same man was arrested a week earlier, then because he was walking around with a weapon in his waistband, RTL Nieuws reports.

In last week's incident, the weapon turned out to be fake. Then the police were only able to arrest him after firing a warning shot.

A 49-year-old man stabbed his ex-wife with a chisel in a supermarket in Bergen op Zoom on Wednesday morning. The man was arrested almost immediately after the incident, AD reports.

The man entered the supermarket around 10:50 a.m. and walked right up to his ex. He stabbed her with a chisel, injuring her. 

A police officer in civilian clothing happened to be in the supermarket and witnessed the attack. She ran after the perpetrator, overpowered and arrested him, despite his resistance. Bystanders helped her.

Farmers in West-Brabant are not allowed to use surface water to irrigate their fields. Waterboard Brabantse Delta implemented this ban on Thursday due to drought. The ban will be in effect until further notice, Omroep Brabant reports.

The ban applies to catchment areas Kibbelvaart, Lokkervaart, Bosloop and the Wouwse grounds, located in Breda, Etten-Leur, Halderberge, Rucphen, Steenbergen, Bergen op Zoom and Roosendaal, according to the broadcaster. The water board will check whether the ban is complied with.

The police found 80 thousand euros worth of cannabis in a home on Eikstraat in Bergen op Zoom. The drugs were hidden under a mattress, and took up the entire surface area of the bed, the police said on Facebook.

A total of 15 kilograms of cannabis was hidden under the bed.

Three people were in the home when the police raided it on Wednesday. They were taken into custody for questioning.

A building that burned down in Bergen op Zoom on Monday night contained an illegal cigarette factory. Tens of thousands of packets of cigarettes were found between the rubble of the burned building on Tuesday morning, Omroep Brabant reports.

The fire started in what was believed to be an empty building on an industrial terrain on Vierlinghweg on Monday night. It caused a massive cloud of smoke that spread over large parts of Bergen op Zoom and was even visible outside Noord-Brabant.

The police, with the help of the Koninklijke Marechaussee and bystanders, arrested a 58-year-old drunk driver from Hoogerheide on Sunday night. The man drove several kilometers on his trike, dragging a dog behind it. He hit at least two cars, the police said in a statement on Monday morning.

Shots were fired on Wielewaal in Etten-Leur around 11:50 p.m. on Monday. Two suspects, a Dutch man and a Belgian, were later arrested on the A58 near Bergen op Zoom, BN DeStem reports.

No one was injured in the shooting. The suspects are a 20-year-old man from Antwerp and an 18-year-old from Bergen op Zoom. 

The police found the suspects on the A58 near Bergen op Zoom. As they were believed to be armed and dangerous, the police arrested them at gunpoint as a precaution. A police dog was also deployed.

The A4 highway is closed in both directions near Bergen op Zoom due to a burning truck. The truck was transporting frying fat when it caught fire. 

The road at the Zoomland junction is covered in grease and extinguishing water. The road will be closed in both directions until the fire is extinguished and the road surface has been cleaned. This is expected to take until 1:00 p.m., according to broadcaster NOS.

People traveling to Rotterdam and Antwerp can detour through Breda.

The reason for the charges is recent publications in the Volkskrant and the Telegraaf in which Van der Voort linked Otto to two assassinations and Petter called him a professional criminal.

A total of 950 thousand people visited a monument on Open Monument Day over the weekend, somewhat less than last year. According to the organizers, this can be attributed to the rainy weather, NOS reports.

Two conductors were injured when two passengers assaulted them on a train towards Bergen op Zoom on Monday night. The passengers were arrested, but not before injuring two police officers too, the police said on Twitter.

The two passengers attacked the police officers while resisting arrest on the Bergen op Zoom station. The police eventually had to use pepper spray to subdue them.

Three men from Bergen op Zoom were arrested at the Lage Zwaluwe train station last week for trying to smuggle 24 kilograms of cocaine out of the country, the police said in a statement on Tuesday. They are also suspected of money laundering. The cocaine was found in suitcases hidden on a freight train headed for Milan, Italy.

A 47-year-old man from Bergen op Zoom was killed in a workplace accident with a forklift in Steenbergen on Wednesday evening. The accident happened on the Unipak industrial rea on Franseweg, Omroep Brabant reports.

The victim's colleagues called emergency services around 8:30 p.m. Emergency workers tried to resuscitate the man, but it was to no avail. He died at the scene.

Colleagues who witnessed the accident were offered victim aid. A family police officer is supporting the victim's relatives.

A passenger train derailed after colliding with a truck in the Noord-Brabant town of Wouw on Friday morning, local safety office Veiligheidsregio Midden- en West-Brabant reports. As far as is known, no one was seriously injured. The train driver sustained slight injuries, but truck driver managed to get out of the vehicle before the train hit, a spokesperson for the safety office said to NU.nl.

A group of school pupils from Bergen op Zoom witnessed a terrorist attack in London on Wednesday afternoon. Five people were killed and around 40 injured when a man crashed his car into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge, crashed into the Westminster Palace gate, got out and stabbed a police officer, the Telegraaf reports.

Lawyer Jan Piet van R. was arrested on Monday night in the investigation against former No Surrender leader Klaas Otto, the Public Prosecutor confirmed to the Telegraaf. A number of addresses was raided on Monday and more will be raided on Tuesday, according to the newspaper.

The Public Prosecutor spokesperson could not say why the lawyer was arrested. Otto claims that he works for the Amsterdam lawyer and visited clients for him abroad, according to the Telegraaf.

This arrest comes only four days after he was released from custody on Monday. His righthand man Janus de V. was also arrested, according to the broadcaster.
