Downpours cause flooded streets in Noord-Brabant; Cooler, but mostly dry day ahead

Heavy rainfall on Tuesday evening caused flooding in several places in Noord-Brabant. Flooded streets were reported in Bergen op Zoom, Rijen, and Oisterwijk, among others. The KNMI expects today to be on the cool side and largely dry after some morning showers in the north.

Some places in Noord-Brabant got over 35 millimeters of rain, according to Weeronline. The Gilze-Rijen measuring point registered 38 mm. That is almost half of the around 90 mm of rain that is typical for the entire month of August.

In Rijen, where locals often experience flooding, the fire brigade had to come to pump water away, according to NOS.

In Bergen op Zoom, manhole covers were pushed up by the water, and water was seeping into some homes, Eindhovens Dagblad reported. The police closed off several roads while the fire brigade pumped water away.

Today, there will still be some showers in the northern parts of the country in the morning, but the rest of the day should be dry with periods of sunshine. The day will be on the cool side, with maximums around 20 degrees and a moderate wind from the west. The wind will be strong along the coast and on the Wadden islands.

Thursday will see plenty of sunshine in most of the country, though the north will have some cloud cover and light rain in the afternoon. Maximums will range between 19 and 24 degrees with a moderate southwesterly wind, strong along the coast.

Friday will be very windy, and Saturday will probably see some rain, but it will still be warm in the southeast. Sunday has a bigger chance of showers and will be cooler.
