The Netherlands was on of 16 countries that abstained on voting on United Nations negotiations on an international nuclear weapons ban. The negotiations will start next year - 123 countries voted for talks on nuclear disarmament and 38 countries voted against, NOS reports.

Russia has officially announced that it will be voting against an UN tribunal to prosecute those responsible for the MH17 disaster. In a statement on the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, Russia calls the creation of a tribunal "untimely and counterproductive".

The United Nations has decided to to support the Minsk political agreement, but has also clearly stated that the perpetrators involved in the shooting down of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 must not get amnesty, Minister Bert Koenders of Foreign Affairs said.

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said in a statement that Russian President Vladimir Putin “has one last chance to show he means to help,” after an “intense” phone conversation he had with Russia’s leader about the lack of access to the Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 crash site. Nearly two-thirds of the 298 people on the plane which crashed in eastern Ukraine had Dutch citizenship.
