The bodies of two men were found in sunken fishing cutter Lummetje in the North Sea early on Sunday afternoon. Two rescue workers were injured during a search and rescue mission for a sunken fishing cutter and two missing sailors from Urk on the North Sea on Thursday. The Netherlands Coastguard launched a massive search for a fishing boat from Urk on the North Sea near Texel on Thursday morning. The Zr.Ms. Makkum, a naval ship designed to search for sea mines, searched the area around where the boat disappeared with its sonar equipment and most likely located it, the Coastguard said. But due to the bad weather conditions, divers can not yet be sent in to confirm. There were two people on board the boat when it disappeared.
A diving team found the wreck of a two-master near Texel which has been identified as the SS Nordlyset. The cargo ship sank during a storm in 1877 while transporting a load of grain from Riga to Antwerp, NOS reports.

An unusual natural phenomenon is happening on the island of Texel - lake Wagejot has been pink for several days. Nature conservation service Natuurmonumenten believes the color is the result of drought on the island - the water's high salt content is reacting to micro algae, the Telegraaf reports.
"We've never seen this before. From one day to another, the brackish water changed from gray-green to flamingo-pink", forest guard Eckard Boot of Natuurmonumenten said to the newspaper.
A wooden statue of Michiel de Ruyter was stolen from the Dutch Navy during the Marine Days in Den Helder this weekend. The statue finally turned up on Texel on Wednesday. It is unclear who was behind the statue's voyage to the West Frisian island, the Telegraaf reports.
Before the statue was found, a Navy spokesperson said that they initially thought it was some kind of bad joke. But the longer the 100 kilogram statue was missing, the less funny it became. "The moment of return has come and gone, so it's definitely not funny anymore", the spokesperson said to Omroep Flevoland.

Five chunks of amber weighing a total of 83 kilograms were found in the body of a sperm whale, and may have be the reason that the animal washed ashore last December on a sandy plain in Texel, Noord Holland. Taxidermist Mickel van Leeuwen announced the findings after investigating the mammal's remains.
