Amsterdam Centrum wants to reduce traffic problems in the Red Light District by closing certain roads to taxis at night. The district proposed a 6 month experiment in which taxis will not be allowed on several streets around the Red Light District between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. from Thursday night to Monday morning, Het Parool reports.

Amsterdam is investing millions into better managing the ever increasing number of people in the city, both residents and visitors, and into improving quality of life in the city, Finance alderman Udo Kock announced with the publication of the city's budget plans for 2017.

The Environment and Transport Inspectorate issued a 10 thousand euro fine to a taxi driver at Schiphol airport on Saturday night. He was caught drivng passengers around using someone else's taxi license, Het Parool reports.

This fine was part of a large scale taxi inspection the Inspectorate did at the airport on Saturday. A number of fines were also handed out to taxi drivers who had gone too long without taking a break. To ensure road safety, taxi drivers have to take mandatory rest time.

Mayor Theo Weterings of Haarlemmermeer wants to ban all taxis at Schiphol who do not have a permit to use the special taxi strip, he announced on Wednesday. He also wants to work with all involved parties to find ways to prevent from working at the airport in the future, NU.nl reports.

Dozens of taxis were fined at Schiphol airport on Thursday for violations ranging from parking in the wrong place to not having the proper papers. The municipality of Haarlemmermeer, the Koninklijke Marechaussee and the Environment and Transport Inspectorate are teaming up to tackle inappropriate behavior by taxis, according to NOS.

Amsterdam wants to do a test in which taxi enforcement officials are equipped with so-called body cams. Enforcers regularly deal with aggression during the course of their duties, and the city hopes that the body cams will "prevent inappropriate behavior against or by enforcers"
