The Environment and Transport Inspectorate issued a 10 thousand euro fine to a taxi driver at Schiphol airport on Saturday night. He was caught drivng passengers around using someone else's taxi license, Het Parool reports.

This fine was part of a large scale taxi inspection the Inspectorate did at the airport on Saturday. A number of fines were also handed out to taxi drivers who had gone too long without taking a break. To ensure road safety, taxi drivers have to take mandatory rest time.

Tensions are heating up among taxi drivers in Almere to a point where some drivers are calling it a taxi war, Omroep Flevoland reports. Taxi drivers are not supposed to interfere in the customer's choice of taxi, but the do so in Almere - threatening and intimidating each other to win a customer, according to the broadcaster.

The Amsterdam police are being flooded with complaints about taxis, the Amsterdam Centrum-Burgwallen department said on Facebook. Most complaints come from the Amsterdam city center and Red Light District area.

According to the police, residents and companies complain about taxi drivers stopping wherever they want to pick up and drop off passengers. They park where no parking is allowed, on the sidewalk or simply in the middle of the road.

Striking taxi drivers in Amsterdam blocked access to the taxi stand on the west side of Amsterdam Central Station on Monday, which means that travelers can not take a taxi from the station. The drivers are tired of the endless new rules from the municipality of Amsterdam, a spokesperson said to NOS.

According to the spokesperson, the problems started when the municipality moved the taxi stand from the front to the back of the station. "We lost almost 60 percent of our customers", he said. People don't know where to find the taxis. "Even the toilet signs are better clarified."

The Netherlands' Environment and Transport Inspectorate issued a 650 thousand euro fine to Uber for violating the Taxi Act. This amount is a remnant of ap reviously imposed fine of 1 million euros for the controversial service UberPOP. According to the inspectorate, Uber gave unlicensed taxi drivers the opportunity to engage in illegelal lease agreements with cmopanies that do have taxi licenses, NU.nl reports.

Schiphol taxi drivers are striking on Monday in protest against the fact that any taxi driver is now allowed to pick up passengers at the airport. Until recently, taxi drivers needed an expensive permit to do so. The taxi drivers will not pick anyone up between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., NU reports.
