One of two Dutch men arrested for dealing drugs at popular music festival Sziget in Budapest, Hungary, is 21-year-old Roelf B. - a top sprinter who formed part of the Dutch relay team in the European Championship for athletes under the age of 23, AD reports.
Despite public street lighting and illuminated advertising, many Dutch cities are getting darker, according to a study of the 54 largest cities in the Netherlands by Natuur- en Milieufederaties. Grid managers Tennet and Enexis want no new solar parks to be built in Groningen and northern Drenthe for the time being. The electricity grid there does not have sufficient capacity to process the energy from any new solar parks, according to the companies, NOS reports.
"We can handle the current situation, but if the many requests for solar parks keep coming, there is simply not enough space to transport all the electricity", spokesperson Loek de Lange of Enexis said to the broadcaster.
A number of polling stations across the Netherlands opened late or had to move on Wednesday morning due to various problems ranging from lost keys to a virus outbreak, NOS reports.
A polling station in a residential care center in Hardegarijp, Friesland had to be relocated due to an outbreak of the noro virus, a virus that causes symptoms like diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and severe abdominal cramps. The polling station was moved to center IT Maskelyn. There was already a polling station there, but its capacity has now been expanded.
No surgeries will be done at the Refaja hospital in Stadskanaal, Groningen in the coming days. The operating theaters at the hospital are closed until at least Friday due to flies, the Telegraaf reports.
Patients scheduled to undergo surgery at the hospital this week, will be referred to another location or have the surgery rescheduled. The Treant Zorggroep, under which the hospital falls, is taking no chances, a spokesperson said to the newspaper. Patients will be brought up to date as soon as possible. They may be referred to Emmen and Hoogeveen for their surgery.
