An intercity train crashed into a car on the crossing on Eperweg in Nunspeet on Monday night. The motorist was killed.

The accident happened around 8:40 p.m., according to Omroep Gelderland. As far as is known, the train driver and passengers were unharmed. Another train was deployed to transport the passengers on the rest of their journey. 

The police are investigating how the accident happened. So far nothing is known about the identity of the motorist.

A train crashed into a car on a crossing between Holten and Rijssen on Monday morning. The person in the car was killed in the collision, a member of ProRail's incident team confirmed on Twitter.

The accident happened on the Keizerdijk crossing on the outskirts of Rijssen, the Telegraaf reports. Emergency services - ambulances, police, fire department, and ProRail's incident team - were at the scene within minutes. But it was quickly revealed that the motorist could not be saved.

After a massive storm did on Thursday, NS and ProRail expect that trains will mostly run according to schedule on Friday. Repair work is still being done on some routes and there may be some last minute changes to the train schedule today.

Over 150 damage claims were made along the Dutch rail lines , of which there were about 40 serious incidents. Although limited train service in the Netherlands was expected to begin on Thursday at 5 p.m., the railroad infrastructure firm ProRail advised passengers to find alternative ways home.

A western storm is set to hit the Netherlands this morning. A code orange weather warning for very strong winds is in effect for all provinces except the northern ones, where a code yellow warning is in place. Road users in Groningen are also warned to beware of icy roads. All forms of traffic will be affected by the storm, with canceled flights, fewer trains, and more traffic.

during snow storms in the Netherlands last month can partly be attributed to rail manager ProRail not being ready for the winter - work on the heating systems of some 50 rail switches was not done yet, AD reports. "At a limited number of locations, the work on switches had not yet fully been completed", ProRail spokesperson Jaap Eikelboom said to the newspaper.

Police in the Netherlands arrested a Maltese man for making a false report about a bomb threat that purportedly targeted an international train, a police report revealed on Sunday. The train, travelling from Amsterdam to Berlin, Germany on December 28, was , Overijssel as a result of the report.

Rail manager ProRail will start experimenting with self-driving trains on several routes next year. The first test involves freight trains on the Betuwe-line. And the first experiment with passenger trains will happen in the province of Groningen, NOS reports.

The freight trains tests will be done in cooperation with Alstom, a company that is developing a system for automatic train operation. The experiment in Groningen will be done in collaboration with transit company Arriva and the province of Groningen.

"Completely idiotic action seems to be a perfectly correct description", State Secretary Stientje van Veldhoven of Infrastructure responded to incidents of fireworks being pelted at moving trains in Amsterdam and Den Bosch on Sunday. The police had to clear out a conference center in Zaandam during the early hours of Tuesday morning, after a party attended by 300 to 400 Eritreans from across the country turned into brawls, NOS reports.

The evacuated Eritreans spread over the center of Zaandam afterwards. The police deployed a helicopter to keep an eye on the situation, according to news wire ANP.

Someone pelted trains in Amsterdam with fireworks on Sunday night. One train was hit and gave the driver such a fright that he could not complete his journey, ProRail said on Twitter.

The rail manager called this a "completely idiotic action" which could have put the lives of the passengers and driver in danger. "The driver watches over the safety of the passengers. If he is so startled that he misses a signal, it can cause accidents", a ProRail spokesperson said to NOS.

Errors were made in the construction of rail lines near Kampen - the foundation is not stable enough for the fast electric trains intended to use the line. As a result, the planned opening of the new Zwolle Stadshagen train station on Sunday, has been postponed, ProRail announced according to RTL Nieuws.

ProRail is taking a number of measures to improve the flow of passengers through Schiphol train station, in an effort to keep up with the airport's growth. The first to be implemented, is the installation of an LED screen above the platform, which will show travelers where an oncoming train's doors will be located, AD reports.

ProRail will rebuild and revamp large parts of Amsterdam Central Station, Amsterdam Amstel Station and Schiphol Station in the coming years, a spokesperson for ProRail confirmed to NU.nl after reports in the Telegraaf. This is necessary to accommodate the new 10-minute train schedule ProRail and NS plan to implement.

NS and ProRail's on the route between Amsterdam, Utrecht, Den Bosch and Eindhoven, is showing very positive first results. The trains run mostly on time and cancellations are on par with the national average, ANP reports.

The provinces of Friesland and Groningen, with rail manager ProRail, plan to start testing a train running on hydrogen next year. The provinces hope that hydrogen will prove to be a cheap and sustainable alternative to the diesel trains currently running between Leeuwarden and Groningen, the Volkskrant reports.

On Wednesday morning NS and ProRail started an experiment on running trains on the busy route between Amsterdam, Utrecht, Den Bosch and Eindhoven every 10 minutes. The experiment went well during the first morning rush hour, according to the rail organizations, AD reports.

According to NS, the waiting times for travelers were a bit shorter this morning. "The crowds were similar to a normal working day", NS said. A spokesperson added: "We had no cancelations or significant delays. We'll keep a close eye on it for the rest of the day."

No trains are running between Rotterdam Central Station and Den Haag Central Station this week, due to maintenance work on the rails. The work started on Monday and is expected to take until Sunday, NS said on its website.

NS advises travelers to detour, for example via Gouda, or use the Randstad Rail. One commuter train will travel between Den Haag Central Station and Den Haag HS. Buses are deployed on some routes. 

The rail company advises travelers to take extra travel time of between 15 minutes and 30 minutes into account.

ProRail established a special team to check all fire alarms that go off in the Schiphol tunnel. The rail operator hopes that this team will help stop fire alarms in the tunnel leading to chaos and hours-long delays on the track in the Randstad area, ANP reports.

Fire detectors in the tunnel often sound alarm over small and relatively harmless incidents, bringing train traffic to a stand still while the alarm is investigated. According to ProRail, the new team will check out what is going on within 10 minutes of an alarm and solve the problems themselves as far as possible.

No trains are traveling between Leeuwarden and Zwolle on Monday morning after a person was killed in a fatal accident on the N31 near Widrum in Friesland. A car drove down the slope and ended up next to the track. According to broadcaster NOS, the car caught fire and the driver was killed.

The driver was the only person inside the car. The N31 was closed down in both directions so that emergency services could do their work.
