Hundreds of Oss residents gathered at a rail crossing on Braakstraat in Oss on Thursday evening to commemoratein a collision between a train and a cargo bike at the crossing that morning. They left mountains of flowers and stuffed animals, and lit candles for the children, AD reports.

Four children were killed in a collision between a train and a trike on a guarded rail crossing near the Oss-West station in Oss on Thursday morning. Another child and an adult were seriously injured. The trike belonged to a local daycare, witnesses told newspaper AD.

A delegation from NS, ProRail and the Dutch government are in Germany this week to make a 4 hour train trip from Amsterdam to Berlin a reality within the next few years. They hope that shorter travel times will make the rail a real alternative to flying within Europe, NOS reports.

People who went to see the giant marionettes of Royal de Luxe in Leeuwarden on Sunday, were left stranded by a train disruption. A faulty overhead line meant very limited trains between Zwolle and Meppel, which forms part of the route between Zwolle and Leeuwarden, NU.nl reports.

According to ProRail, about half a kilometer of overhead line was pulled down by a train. This brought train traffic on the route to a complete standstill for a time. From around 6:30 p.m. a limited number of trains could run on one rail on the route.

An Arriva train crashed into a car at an unguarded rail crossing near Scheemda on Monday morning. The motorist was killed. The train driver remained unharmed. There were no passengers on the train, NOS reports.

The cause of the accident is not yet clear. There is currently no train traffic on the route between Groningen and Veendam.

This is not the first accident at this crossing. In 2015 a person in a car died after a collision with a train at the same crossing. Another collision happened in January of this year, but no one was killed.

ProRail is expanding its experiment with bright yellow-colored railway crossings after a first test in Baarn proved to be successful. According to ProRail, road users used the yellow crossing in Baarn more carefully, the number of incidents decreased, and the yellow crossing also strengthened the sense of security, NU.nl reports.

There will be no trains running between Utrecht and Rotterdam Centraal, and between Utrecht and The Hague this week. This line is closed until August 6th due to maintenance on the track around Gouda, NOS reports.

Around 75 percent of the railway around Gouda will be renewed, which includes replacing points, rails, sleepers and rail gravel. This is only possible if train traffic is completely halted. NS and ProRail chose this week for this task, as it is summer holidays and many people are away on vacation.

Liander seriously endangered a number of firefighters during a fire in a transformer house along the rails in Hilversum on Saturday, according to mayor Pieter Broertjes. The energy supplier stated that the power was shut down remotely, but when the fire brigade started extinguishing the fire, the building was still under high voltage, the mayor wrote in a letter to the Hilversum city council, NOS reports.

ProRail is going to use drones and 3D scans to map out trees along the Dutch railway. In this way the rail company wants to identify trees that are at risk of falling over or losing branches before they cause delays on the tracks, NOS reports.

The number of train passengers in the Netherlands is expected to grow by 45 percent in the coming decade, according to ProRail. The rail manager is therefore investing at least 20 billion euros into rail renewal, so that it can cope with the passenger increase, ProRail CEO Pier Eringa said to the Telegraaf.

"People are sick of traffic jams on the road and in the city they are massively rushed into the train. That's great, of course, but something has to be done to absorb that explosive growth."

A container ship crashed into a railway bridge in Gouda on Sunday. The accident halted train traffic between Gouda and Boskoop on Sunday, and fewer trains will run on this route on Monday, NS reports. The rail company hopes that train traffic will return to normal by 6:30 p.m.

The bridge shifted on its foundation due to the accident, and the safety net is visibly torn. "The bridge is damaged to such an extent that specialized technicians have to take measurements", ProRail said on Sunday.

A 66-year-old driving instructor from Amersfoort was killed in a collision between his car and a train in Bussum on Tuesday. His student, an 18-year-old girl from Bussum, managed to get out of the car and off the tracks just in time.

The accident happened around 11:15 a.m. on a rail crossing on Herenstraat, according to the police. The driving instructor died at the scene. None of the 140 passengers in the train were injured. Another train took them to their destination.

ProRail is closing an unguarded rail crossing on Tuunterweg near the village of Aalten to cars after a fatal accident on the crossing on Wednesday night. A 19-year-old motorist from Aalten was killed when his car was hit by an Arriva train, Omroep Gelderland reports.

The car was hit by an Arriva train traveling between Arnhem and Winterswijk on the unguarded crossing. The police are investigating how this accident happened.

The first train from the city of Groningen to Eemshaven arrived at the new station at 9:47 a.m. on Wednesday. With that the northernmost station in the Netherlands is officially operational. The train ride from Groningen to Eemshaven is 51 minutes long, with stops at nine stations, NOS reports.

The Arriva train targets people who work in Eemshaven and tourists. From now on a train will run to Eemshaven five times a day. The train connects to the boat to the German Wadden island of Borkum.

No train traffic is currently possible to and from Rotterdam due to a major signal- and switch failure. How long this problem will last is not yet clear. NS deployed buses to get travelers out of the cold and to their destination, AD reports.

The fault occurred around 9:30 a.m. on the line between Rotterdam and Gouda, but soon spread to the whole region. No trains are running to and from Rotterdam Centraal.

The number of train tracks at Amsterdam Centraal will be reduced from the current 15 to 9, and two new train tracks will be built in Amsterdam Zuid, State Secretary Stientje van Veldhoven of Infrastructure announced on Thursday, the Volkskrant reports.

The track reduction at Amsterdam Centraal forms part of major renovations at the station. By reducing the number of tracks, platforms can be widened and the capacity can increase, according to the State Secretary. The number of switches will also be reduced. More trains must thus be able to use the station in less time.

A train crashed into a car in the Drenthe town of Echten on Thursday morning. The motorist was killed in the accident. No one in the train was injured, the Drenthe police said on Twitter.

The accident happened on Velingweg around 8:45 a.m., according to NU.nl.

The police are investigating exactly what happened.

ProRail is also investigating the current situation on the track. Train traffic is halted between Meppel and Hoogeveen until at least 12:15 p.m., according to NS.

A gas leak near Amsterdam Central Station temporarily halted train traffic in the Dutch capital during rush hour on Monday morning. The leak was discovered around 8:30 a.m., and fixed by 9:20 a.m., but ProRail expects it will take a while yet before all trains are running on schedule again, ANP reports.

Trains running between Amsterdam Central, Duivendrecht, and Amsterdam Bijlmer Arena were affected. NS reports that the delays are decreasing.
