Weeronline warns of heat stress as tropical weather arrives on Thursday

A spell of tropical heat is set to arrive on Thursday, according to Weeronline. “It will also feel muggy for many people, and there is a risk of severe thunderstorms,” the weather service warned. Friday is expected to be particularly hot, with high humidity levels.

Dry weather is forecast for Thursday, with temperatures reaching about 25 degrees Celsius in the northern parts of the Netherlands and 27 degrees Celsius in central areas. Southern regions may already see the mercury climb to around 30 degrees Celsius.

“Friday will be even more sweltering, as tropical heat is expected across almost the entire country,” Weeronline said. The highest temperatures, around 33 degrees Celsius, are forecast in Limburg and eastern Noord-Brabant. The high humidity will create oppressive conditions and could also trigger heavy showers and thunderstorms.

Temperatures will remain unusually high overnight into Saturday, staying above 18 degrees Celsius in many areas. “For many people, this will result in poorer sleep,” the weather bureau said. Due to the warm nights and high humidity, Weeronline is warning of heat stress. “That means the heat places strain on the body and increases the risk of overheating or heatstroke.”

Temperatures are expected to ease somewhat over the weekend, although it will remain warm, with highs forecast to reach between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius.
