Netherlands predicted to shift from icy to milder, wetter conditions this week

Sunday evening, much of the Netherlands will remain cold, with below-freezing temperatures in the northeast and slightly higher readings along the southwest coast, Weeronline reports.

Snow and freezing rain from earlier in the week will continue to make roads hazardous in parts of Noord-Holland, Utrecht, Noord-Brabant, and Limburg, while coastal winds may gust up to 60-70 kilometers per hour.

From Monday evening onward, rain will move into Zeeland and later along the western coast. Temperatures will hover around or just above freezing on roads that may still be icy. Overnight, precipitation will move northeast, transitioning from snow to freezing rain and then to rain, though slippery conditions could persist into Tuesday morning in some areas.

Tuesday will remain mostly cloudy, with light rain or drizzle in some regions. Temperatures will rise to 2-3 degrees in the northeast and 4-8 degrees in the rest of the country.

Fog may form in areas with lingering snow. Winds will shift to moderate south and southwest, and rainfall will increase in the west by Tuesday afternoon, continuing nationwide overnight.

From Wednesday onward, unsettled weather will dominate. Showers are expected across the country, though dry periods with occasional sun will occur. Afternoon temperatures will generally range from 6 to 9 degrees, with moderate south-to-southwest winds continuing through the remainder of the week.
