A Ukrainian special operations unit arrested a former military commander of the pro-Russian separatists last week. The man, 58-year-old Vladimir Tsemach, served as commander of air defense in the city of Snizhne, near the site from where the missile was fired that shot down Malaysia airlines flight MH17 in 2014, the Volkskrant reports based on information from sources.

According to the missile maker, flight MH17 was shot down by an older model of missile, which the Ukrainian army has in its possession.

As Russian media has been denouncing the investigation over the past year and presenting a number of alternative theories left and right, the chances are good that the Russians will not be supporting the conclusions reached by the investigators.

New video footage of the disaster with Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 has surfaced, on the one year anniversary of the tragedy. This footage is believed to have been recorded by the rebels themselves, shortly after the crash. The video was discovered by Australian news organization News Corp Australia and has been handed over to the multinational Joint Investigation Team, handling the investigation into the cause of the disaster.
