A cruise ship that arrived in Rotterdam on Thursday morning spent several hours in quarantine due to sick passengers. Dozens of passengers suffered from stomach problems, presumably due to a norovirus infection, NOS reports.

The norovirus causes gastroenteritis and is highly contagious. The ship, named AidaPerla, moored at the Wilhelminakade in Rotterdam on Thursday morning. During the trip around 70 passengers reported with symptoms of gastroenteritis. They were cared for on board.

A number of polling stations across the Netherlands opened late or had to move on Wednesday morning due to various problems ranging from lost keys to a virus outbreak, NOS reports.

A polling station in a residential care center in Hardegarijp, Friesland had to be relocated due to an outbreak of the noro virus, a virus that causes symptoms like diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and severe abdominal cramps. The polling station was moved to center IT Maskelyn. There was already a polling station there, but its capacity has now been expanded.

Public health service GGD believes a viral infection is the reason some 50 students fell sick during an orientation camp for the Hogeschool van Arnhem and Nijmegen on Friday, a spokesperson said in a special press conference. At this stage it is assumed they contracted the Norovirus

Several patients in the Berhoven hospital in Uden and the Sint Lucas Andreas Hospital in Amsterdam have been infected with the norovirus.

The Sint Lucas Andreas Hospital in Amsterdam announced yesterday that at least 6 of their patients have been infected with the norovirus.

An outbreak of the norovirus at a Brabant campsite left over 60 guests sick last week, the regional office of health agency GGD has confirmed. Authorities were alerted when more than 60 guests reported gastrointestinal symptoms including nausea and diarrhea, after holidaying at the Prinsenmeer campsite.
