Today is Remembrance Day in the Netherlands - a day on which the atrocities of World War II are remembered and the victims are commemorated.

The National Commemoration will happen on Dam Square in Amsterdam on Friday evening. King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima and Prime Minister Mark Rutte will attend this commemoration, NU.nl reports.

The court in Amsterdam banned a planned noise protest during the National Commemoration of World War II victims on Amsterdam's Dam Square on Friday, Remembrance Day.

Interim Amsterdam mayor Jozias van Aartsen also banned the noise protest by action group Geen 4 mei voor mij. Initiator Rogier Meijerink hoped that the court would overturn this ban. But the court ruled against him, RTL Nieuws reports.

World War II camp survivor Wim Alosery died in his sleep in the night from Wednesday to Thursday at age 94, a spokesperson for the National Committee 4 and 5 May confirmed. Alosery was set to speak at the National Commemoration on Remembrance Day, AD reports.

Fine weather is expected for Liberation Day on Saturday. It will by sunny and warm with maximums between 18 and 23 degrees, according to Weeronline. Remembrance Day on Friday will be dry and mostly sunny, with maximums around 13 degrees.

A noise demonstration during the national commemoration of World War II victims in Amsterdam on May 4th is disrespectful and can be punishable, interim Amsterdam Mayor Jozias van Aartsen said on Wednesday morning. He warned action group Geen 4 mei voor mij not to go through with the demonstration, Het Parool reports.

A commemoration for asylum seekers who died in the crossing to Europe arranged for Amsterdam on Thursday evening, at the same time as the national commemoration for WWII victims for Remembrance Day, has been canceled, the initiators announced in an open letter.
