State Secretary Sharon Dijksma of Economic Affairs is pushing for an international ban on trophy hunting, such as hunting lions or elephants. She is currently investigating the possibilities for such a ban. Dijksma also wants the United Nations to recognize wildlife crime as international crime.
A new report issued by the UN Human Rights Office suggests that the Islamic State (ISIS) might have committed genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. Calling them the three most serious international crimes, the organization is urging Iraq to sign on to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, a treaty that established the ICC and mandates that countries criminalize the crimes listed in the treaty under their own domestic law.
International policing agency Interpol has released a new list of its Most Wanted Criminals suspected of environmental crimes. Amongst those on the list is 55-year-old Nicolaas "Nico" Antonius Cornelis Maria Duindam, a Dutchman last seen in the Netherlands.
