A hyperloop can reduce travel time between Amsterdam and Brussels, Duisburg, Dusseldorf and other places to less than 30 minutes, according to an exploratory study conducted on behalf of the province of Noord-Holland. This means of transport opens up a large number of possibilities, the province said.
Delft hyperloop company Hardt Hyperloop received millions of euros in investments this past year and plans to use this money to build a 3 kilometer long test track in the Netherlands. The test track will be part of the company's yet-to-be-built European Hyperloop Center. If all goes according to plan, Hardt Hyperloop hopes to launch the first commercial hyperloop connection by 2025, AD reports
The Delft Hyperloop Team unveiled their Hyperloop concept with which they will participate in the SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition in California next month. According to the TU Delft students, their pod, the Atlas 02, accelerates faster than a Formula 1 car and brakes four times as hard, Bright reports.
This year the Delft students aim to break the record for the highest speed ever reached by a Hyperloop. That record currently stands at 467 kilometers per hour, set by a German team at SpaceX last year.
The province of Noord-Holland started a close collaboration with Hardt Hyperloop to realize a hyperloop system between the airports in Amsterdam and Frankfurt. This vacuum tube, high speed transport system will be able to take passengers between those two cities in half an hour. "Then flights are no longer needed", a spokesperson for the province said to the Telegraaf.
Schiphol teamed up with Delft startup Hardt Hyperloop to investigate the possibility of a Hyperloop connection between the airport and Frankfurt in Germany. They will investigate building an above ground Hyperloop system on roughly the same route currently being used by NS and Deutsche Bahn for the ICE high-speed train, Het Parool reports.
The students of team Delft Hyperloop won second place in the SpaceX Hyperloop Pod competition in California on Monday. First place went to WARR Hyperloop, a student team from Munich University, NU.nl reports.
The Delft team's pod reached a top speed of 142 kilometers per hour. WARR Hyperloop broke a world record, and claimed first prize, with a top speed of 466 kilometers per hour. Hundreds of teams signed up for the race, but only four teams made it through all the inspections and selections to actually compete.
The Netherlands must take the lead in developing the hyperloop by making sure that the country gets the first test track for this high speed transport system, a number of Dutch companies wrote in a letter to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, which covers Transport, NU.nl reports.
The Netherlands is full of possibilities for a hyperloop test track, but Flevoland is the most suitable location, Minister Melanie Schultz van Haegen wrote to the Tweede Kamer. She asked TNO to investigate the economic and social usefulness and the feasibility of testing the hyperloop in the Netherlands, and eventually building a permanent track, ANP reports.
American company Hyperloop One plans to have the first Hyperloop connections up and running by 2021. The company is considering dozens of routes fr the high-speed transport system worldwide, including in the Netherlands, Het Parool reports.
On Tuesday the company presented nine possible European routes in Amsterdam. The routes were devised by the semi-finalists of a route competition the company had. The Netherlands route includes Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Eindhoven, Den Bosch, Arnhem and Lelystad.
Dutch Hyperloop startup HARDT opened its own test facility in Delft on Thursday. Minister Melanie Schultz van Haegen of Infrastructure and Environment unveiled the Hyperloop test tube, the first of its kind in Europe. And while this structure is intended to test Hyperloop facilities at lower speeds, the 30 meter long tube could pave the way for transport at speeds over 1 thousand kilometers per hour, partner BAM said in a press release.
The TU Delft students who recently won a SpaceX Hyperloop competition in the United States with their Hyperloop design and prototype, are continuing their work as startup company Hardt. Dutch railway company NS and investment fund Uniq decided to give the group financial support by each investing 300 thousand euros into the startup, RTL Nieuws reports.
A team of student's from TU Delft won the overall prize for best designed Hyperloop capsule at a competition organized by Elon Musk's space company SpaceX in Hawthorne, California, the university announced on Twitter.
A team of TU Delft students will be presenting their hyperloop-demo in Texas this weekend for the Elon Musk hyperloop competition
