Due to a failure in track switches, there will be fewer trains around the Randstad Monday morning. The NS hopes to have this solved by around 8 a.m.

Dutch Rail (NS) is working on a new app to improve client experiences with the Public Transport (OV) cards. With this app, people can check and load their card balance via a smartphone with Near Field Communication (NFC), ComputerIdee.nl reports.

Train stations in The Netherlands will start keeping entry gates closed at busy stations in phases. The first phase will begin in August for Woerden, Rotterdam Alexander, Almere center and Enschede, which are the cities in which the testing for ov-chip cards to replace train tickets has been successful.

The NS is hesitant about introducing the new high-speed trains, or 'flitstreinen' before 2021. In a letter to State Secretary Wilma Mansveld of Infrastructure, Timo Huges, NS-chief, writes that the new intercity trains will not be able to travel faster than 200 kilometers per hour.

A passenger train lost its rear car on the Moerdijk bridge in Dordrecht on Monday, which uncoupled due to 'unknown circumstances', Dutch Rail (NS) announces. The automatic brake system kicked in immediately, and the 700 passengers were not in danger, a spokesperson said.

From the 9th of July, traveling by train in the Netherlands will no longer be possible with a paper train ticket. Whoever wants to travel by train will have to do so using the OV-chip card. This will also be possible on a one-time basis, but that will make the trip €1 more expensive, deredactie.be reports.
