Dutch trains return to normal schedule Tuesday after a week of snow disruptions
The Netherlands’ rail network is largely returning to normal following heavy snow and frost last week, with most passenger and international trains expected to operate on schedule Tuesday, January 13. ProRail, the company responsible for maintaining the rail infrastructure, said, “After last week’s heavy snowfall and frost, the situation on the tracks is largely normal from Tuesday, January 13.”
NS said nearly all trains will run according to the regular timetable, though some routes may see fewer or shorter trains due to delayed maintenance. Passengers are advised that trains may be more crowded than usual.
“The aftermath of the frost and snow over the past days means the number of trains needed for the full schedule is not yet available,” NS said. “Last week, it was difficult or impossible to move trains to workshops for maintenance. Travelers may still experience some disruption this week.”
Regional trains are expected to operate normally, and freight services currently face no disruptions. International trains are also scheduled to follow the regular timetable, though passengers are advised to check NS International for the latest information.
Passengers are encouraged to consult the NS travel planner or enable app notifications for updates. Earlier on Monday, NS ran the regular schedule with minor adjustments, and operations went smoothly.
