The word "boomer" was voted the Netherlands' Word of the Year for 2019, the Dikke Van Dale announced on Tuesday. "Boomer" received 41.8 percent of the 17,500 votes cast in the Netherlands. Second place went to "klimaatspijbelaar" with 14.2 percent of the votes, and third to "klimaatdrammer" with 9.6 percent, NU.nl reports.
The word "blokkeerfries" is the winner of Van Dale's Word of the Year election, getting 55.4 percent of the over 28 thousand votes. "Yogasnuiver", someone who usually lives healthily but occasionally indulges in party drugs and cocaine, and "mangomoment", a moment of happiness that a seriously ill patient experiences through an apparently insignificant, non-medical act or comment from a doctor, came in second and third place respectively.
Dagobertducktaks has won the Van Dale Word of the Year 2014. Ton den Boon, Dutch chief editor of the Dikke Van Dale, and Ruud Hendrickx, Flemish chief editor of the Dikke Van Dale, announced the winner in a short film.
