A childcare facility in Amsterdam voluntarily halted operations after the mother of one of the facility's children tested positive for the Covid-19 strain of coronavirus. The decision was made by the firm which manages the Amsterdam-Zuidoost facility, identified as the CompaNanny Atlas Arena by newspaper Telegraaf.

The woman from the Amsterdam region who was diagnosed with coronavirus Covid-19 on Friday is an employee of the Amsterdam UMC, the hospital confirmed on Friday. She did not work with patients. The woman does not have to be hospitalized. Her symptoms are minor enough that she can safely be quarantined at her home in Diemen, Aura Timen, spokesperson for public health institute RIVM, said to NOS.

A resident of the Amsterdam region tested positive for coronavirus Covid-19 on Friday morning, public health institute RIVM announced. She is currently in quarantine at a home in Diemen, which neighbors the capital.

According to the RIVM, this patient has no connection with the Noord-Brabant man diagnosed on Thursday. Like him, she also visited the Lombardy region of Italy, where hundreds of people have tested positive for the Covid-19 viral strain over the past week.

A portion of the Diemerplein, a popular square in Diemen, was cordoned off and evacuated after possibly explosive material was found there, police said. According to local media outlet AT5 it concerns the building where the restaurant Bammy’s Wok is located.

Several windows at the building were shattered, a police spokesperson confirmed to the Parool.

Police revealed the find shortly before 11:45 a.m. The “discovery of a suspected explosive” also led to a response from the EOD, the explosives disposal team from the Defense Ministry.

Shots were fired in Diemen and Amsterdam Zuidoost early on Thursday morning. A gas line was hit in Diemen, resulting in surrounding residents being evacuated as a precaution, the police said on Twitter.

Both shootings happened at around 5:30 a.m. As far as is known, no one was hurt.

The shooting in Diemen happened on Rode Kruislaan. When it became clear that a gas line was hit, the situation was escalated to Grip 1, which means that a commanding officer from one of the emergency services takes command of the entire scene.

Former Diemen alderman Jorrit Nuijens was fined 600 euros for disrupting public order and drug possession. With that the case against him following his arrest in Amsterdam is closed. "I can focus on the future", Nuijens said in a statement.

Prosecutors upgraded charges against a man arrested in Diemen over the death of a pregnant Brazilian woman and her unborn son. Dennis van E., 48, is facing accusations of aggravated abortion and manslaughter, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) confirmed on Friday. He was ordered held in jail for an additional 70 days in a hearing on Monday while attorneys continue to prepare for the case to come to trial, the Amsterdam district court system told NL Times.

Police in the Amsterdam region said there were no known injuries in an apparent shooting that took place Monday afternoon. Investigators were still canvassing the scene about an hour after gunshots rang out in Duivendrecht, part of the Ouder-Amstel municipality in Noord-Holland.

The shooting was first reported to emergency services just after 3:20 p.m. on Monday, police said. Officers were dispatched quickly, as well as a trauma team in a helicopter and two ambulances.

A woman found dead with a baby in a Diemen apartment last month, was 32-year-old Patricia de Oliveira Santos from Fortaleza in Brazil. She was seven months pregnant when she traveled to the Netherlands to spend time with her boyfriend, her sister Fabiana told Brazilian media. The family doesn't yet know whether the deceased baby found with Patricia was the child she was expected to deliver, and more details could be revealed in court on Monday.

A 48-year-old man held for questioning in connection with the death of a woman and a baby in an apartment in Diemen on Friday, is financial planner and pension expert Dennis van E., neighbors told newspaper AD. 

The bodies of the woman and child were found in the home on Martin Luther Kinglaan on Friday, the Public Prosecutor announced on Tuesday. The tenant of the home - Van E., according to his immediate neighbors - was detained that same day.

A woman and a child were found dead in a home on Martin Luther Kinglaan in Diemen on Friday, the Public Prosecutor announced on Tuesday. The police arrested a 48-year-old man, the tenant of the home.

According to AT5, the victims are a mother and her newborn baby. The police initially did not think that the mother and child were killed in a crime, but now have strong indications that this was the case, the Amsterdam broadcaster writes.

One person died in a shooting in Duivendrecht on Tuesday evening, and hours after the victim was found police had still not revealed if the man was killed as part of a crime.

Authorities first received a call about the victim just before 5:25 p.m. from the Buitensingel, an area bordered on the west by the A2, and to the east by the train tracks leading to the Duivendrecht train station.

An unusual delivery of live fish caught the attention of Amsterdam police hook, line, and sinker. Investigating officers found the aquatic animals swimming around hidden compartments filled with liquid cocaine.

It started on Sept. 4 when police officers on stakeout witnessed dozens of boxes being loaded into vans at Schiphol airport. The delivery vehicles left a holding area for animal cargo and traveled to a storage facility in Amsterdam where the boxes were offloaded, police said.

The Netherlands still has a long way to go to achieve its climate goal of 49 percent less emissions in 2030 compared to 1990.

Former Diemen alderman Jorrit Nuijens was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs when he was arrested at the Amsterdam city hall on June 20th, according to a blood test done by the police. Nuijens posted a photo of the police letter stating that no punishable substances were found in his blood on Twitter. A spokesperson for the police confirmed to NU.nl that the letter is authentic.

Jorrit Nuijens (GroenLinks) resigned as alderman of Diemen on Friday after his arrest in Amsterdam on Thursday, GroenLinks Diemen announced. The 39-year-old man was arrested for disrupting public order on Waterlooplein, in front of Amsterdam's city hall. The police later found a small bottle of what they believe is GHB on the alderman, according to newspaper AD.

An argument at a pay terminal inside a parking garage erupted in gunfire, leaving one young man badly wounded. The man, identified by family as Orpheo Gefferie, died from his injuries at an area hospital, police said.

The mother of his seven-year-old child called Gefferie "the best dad" their son could have had. "We will forever love you," she said on social media.

Gefferie, from Almere, was identified by police as being 26, although at least one newspaper report said he was 24. He spent time traveling back and forth between his Almere home and Suriname.

Neighboring municipality Diemen is catching up to the Dutch capital, moving from the 26th most unsafe municipality in 2017 to the 8th last year. Limburg counts four municipalities in the top 10 least safe, AD reports.

Gilermo I., the prime suspect of a fatal fire in a Diemen apartment in July 2017, expressed regret for what happened at the start of his trial on Friday. "I find it horrible what happened. But I can not turn back time", he said, RTL Nieuws reports.
