European elections: People can vote at more than 40 train stations

After the Netherlands elected a new parliament last November, the Dutch can cast their vote again, this time for the election of a new European Parliament. And all it takes is a trip to the nearest train station.

Dutch citizens can cast their votes for the European elections in 42 train stations in the Netherlands next Thursday. Most polling stations there will be open between 7:30 a.m. and 9 p.m., reports NS.

The polling station at Breda train station will be the first to open at 5:15 a.m. Other polling stations exist in Alkmaar, Almere Centrum, Amsterdam Centraal, Diemen, Groningen, Maastricht, Oss, Den Haag Centraal and Leiden Centraal.

Around 68 percent of Dutch people say they will vote in the European elections next week, according to a representative survey conducted by Panel Inzicht on behalf of the newspaper AD. Although enthusiasm is high, more than half of Dutch voters do not know a single leader of the parties running in the election, AD reports.

However, estimating how many citizens will ultimately go to the polls is difficult. This is because the European election campaign has taken a back seat in recent weeks due to the turbulent Cabinet formation and the introduction of the new prime minister. According to AD, around 42% of Dutch citizens voted in the last European elections in 2019. Whether it will be more this time will become clear on June 6, when the Dutch people can vote at train stations, among other places.
